Today is Justin Bieber's day! The hashtag for today is #IllShowYou, which is Justin's latest single. I found this audio on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5gYDOmERU8

The wordcloud is a bit crappy because there are long words that are the leftover hyperlinks. So they really don't mean anything. I guess these links were shared a lot on Twitter and my code didn't do a good job of removing them. Anyway, I will adapt my code soon to fix this.

I thought it was interesting that Skrillex appeared many times in the tweets with this hashtag. He is in the news because of some Twitter fight he got into with Deadmau5 (omg, what the heck is happening to me?) but I don't know why that should relate to this hashtag. The words "purpose" and "get" show up several times as well. I guess "get" is for getting the song but I might be wrong there. As "preorder" is also showing a few times, "get" is likely to mean buy.

Justin Bieber is hugely popular but he is also hated by a bunch of people. Well, that shows up pretty much in the sentiment analysis. I had never seen a sentiment graph like this one before. JB is a super polarizing figure!

#EgyptAir

The big news today is that a plane carrying 66 people from Paris to Cairo has disappeared. Just now Guardian reported that French president Hollande has confirmed that the plane has crashed but no cause for the crash has been determined yet. The plane is still missing though. The wordcloud is as expected talking about the flight from Paris to Cairo. It's speculated that the plance went down in the Mediterranean and that's why you see this word appearing a few times in the tweets. It seems that the tweets are simply spreading this news. There is a little mention of prayers. Literally no mention of terrorism or terrorist, which implies that people are not openly speculating that yet. The sentiment is surprisingly positive. I can't figure out why! Perhaps the tweets mentioning prayers, praying, families, thoughts, etc. are adding to this.

Comparing Jewelry Brands

From time to time I like to study how luxury brands are doing on Twitter. Today I picked up 5 jewelry brands and compared their Twitter sentiment and word clouds. Let's take a look at Blue Nile Diamond, Cartier, Pandora, Swarovski, and Tiffany and Company in that order. Not all of them are luxury brands though so comparison is not that straightforward. Also, There were not many tweets for Blue Nile so the word cloud looks sparse. Blue Nile Diamond Cartier Pandora Swarovski Tiffany & Co Let's take a look at their sentiment graphs.
