Google's largest annual event - the I/O conference - is taking place right now. You can find more news about it on Techcrunch or other tech blogs



I have around 32K clean tweets for the analysis. I was interested in knowing which Google products get most mention. I didn't use Google in the wordcloud because it would be obviously the most commonly used word. Well, as it turns out Android is the most popular product that was discussed in these tweets. Allo is the new chat app that Google introduced to take on iMessage. Overall sentiment was quite positive but there were still around 18% negative tweets. These could be because of Google invited people to suggest what its next version of Android should be called. It starts with N so basically it was open to a lot of racist jokes.

Today I am going to post 2 separate wordclouds. This is the first one, which I created 2 days ago but didn't post on this blog. XFactor is the popular TV show in the UK and they had the finale a couple of days back. So, here is the wordcloud. As I don't watch the show, I can't comment much but as always there is something that surprised me a lot and that's One Direction popping up as the most frequent term. Now it's utterly possible that when I downloaded the tweets, "onedirection" was trending more than XFactor. But this goes on to show how a popular hashtag can be associated with a completely unrelated term. One Direction apparently performed at this event. It was nice to see comments such as amazing, emotional, excited, etc. The sentiment was SUPER positive! Maybe this is the highest positive sentiment I have seen recently. Oh btw, I downloaded 200K tweets this time instead of my usual 100K

#IllShowYou

Today is Justin Bieber's day! The hashtag for today is #IllShowYou, which is Justin's latest single. I found this audio on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5gYDOmERU8 The wordcloud is a bit crappy because there are long words that are the leftover hyperlinks. So they really don't mean anything. I guess these links were shared a lot on Twitter and my code didn't do a good job of removing them. Anyway, I will adapt my code soon to fix this. I thought it was interesting that Skrillex appeared many times in the tweets with this hashtag. He is in the news because of some Twitter fight he got into with Deadmau5 (omg, what the heck is happening to me?) but I don't know why that should relate to this hashtag. The words "purpose" and "get" show up several times as well. I guess "get" is for getting the song but I might be wrong there. As "preorder" is also showing a few times, "get" is likely to mean buy. ISIS

Today ISIS was trending and I decided to make a wordcloud from that rather than using any trending hashtag. The wordcloud shows context-specific words, obviously linking to Paris attacks. But there are some other interesting words patterns too. I thought this was very interesting. In particular the news that Anonymous is taking on ISIS has struck a cord with people. Also, there is some talk about Obama. Perhaps calling for him to fight with ISIS with more intensity? Putin's name shows up a bit as well. Interestingly only these two world leaders show up often. French president Hollandes is curiously absent! The sentiment is very negative, as expected.
